260 years ago, the Alter Rebbe, at age 20, made the long and arduous journey from Liozna to Mezritch, to the Maggid’s court. “In Mezritch one could learn how to daven,” he later explained. Davening properly became an essential component of a Chabad Chossid’s daily life from that day on. Beis Medrash Iyun Tefillah is a first-of-its-kind program that guides everyday individuals to grow their davening experience.
“It’s easy to get caught up by the everyday hustle and bustle of living a frum life in today’s world that the quiet moments of introspective tefilla can at times fall by the wayside CH”V,” reflects Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, executive director of Merkos 302. “The Rebbe emphasized the power of avodas hatefilla, and it’s up to us to harness it, making it an essential part of our daily life.”

Fully online, the program’s unique approach to the siddur and davening experience features one shiur a week, midday on Wednesdays. In a three-week rotation, three world-class teachers lead a shiur each week, focusing on one aspect of Tefillah. Dayan Levi Raskin, who has spent a lifetime researching and writing on the unique nusach, minhagim, and halachos of the Alter Rebbe's siddur, delivers the first shiur of the three-week rotation, expounding on those areas.

The second week, noted mashpia and Rosh Kollel of Kollel L'lomdei Dach, Rabbi Yossi Klyne plunges into the depth of pirush hamilos. Attendees acquire an understanding of the davening’s structure and the flow of words and sentences. Becoming familiar with the intricacies of the siddur’s depth, the shiurim help attendees see their siddur in a new light, and connect with the words profoundly.

Rabbi Osher Farkash, mashpia of Yeshivas Lubavitch Argentina and Kollel L'lomdei Dach, leads the final shiur of the three-week rotation. Providing attendees with the tools to infuse their davening with the chassidus they’ve studied, turning davening into a true avodas hatefilla within a busy lifestyle.
“We often focus on studying chassidus before davening, but sometimes it can feel disconnected from davening itself,” says Rabbi Dovid Oberlander, shliach in Monsey, NY, and participant in the new program. “After just two shiurim at Beis Medrash Iyun Tefillah, which addresses the davening aspect directly, the words of davening already started shining brighter.”
While participants are encouraged to attend live and join the discussion, replays and source sheets are available on the easily accessible online portal for members. The program is available to Shluchim and Anash.
