For more than half a century, Chabad-Lubavitch shluchim have partnered with their respective lay leaders to form an unshakable bond for the benefit of world Jewry. Today, these partnerships are growing stronger than ever.
This was clearly evident last Sunday, as over 420 people gathered for the 13th annual lay leadership conference of the International Conference of Shluchim. Held at the Brooklyn Marriott hotel, the conference focused on “Partnering with the growth of Chabad”.
Conservative radio talk show host and social commentator, Dennis Prager lead a star studded line-up of philanthropists and supporters of Chabad, in a conference long to be remembered. In a truly poignant and inspiring talk, Mr. Prager told the attendees how Chabad is the true representation of the Jewish community. He also expressed his appreciation and admiration for the shluchim and their respective lay leaders.
Gracing the conference, Rabbi Berel Lazar, Chief Rabbi of Russia, spoke about the transformation of the former Soviet Union through the years by using the right connections. “Every shliach together with his lay leaders have the potential to transform their cities through the right connections and support”, Rabbi Lazar said.
Titled “Venture capital and sweat equity”, the main session saw a panel comprised of major Chabad supporters; George Rohr, Co-Chairman of NCH capital, Eduardo Elsztain, President of IRSA, Meyer Nigri, Founding President of Tecnisa, and Jeffery Cohen, Chairman of Beco management, discussing why they support and give to Chabad. Moderated by Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, they inspired one another by their commitment and dedication in supporting the shluchim.
After the panel, lay leaders had the opportunity to mingle, ask questions and become inspired by some of Chabad’s biggest donors.
Attendees also heard from Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky of Chabad-Lubavitch Heaquarters, who quoted Mr. Prager’s recent article on Chabad and how we can all learn from the unique bond that excites between the shliach and the lay leader, and the benefit that is shared all around.
“The conference inspired and encouraged those in attendance”, said Rabbi Dovid Eliezrie of Yorba Linda, CA. “The lay leaders returned to their respective communities empowered to be stronger partners with their shluchim”.
