Young Jewish Professionals from around the world are converging for a once-in-a-lifetime weekend in Singapore, discovering the local culture and community while meeting their fellow Jewish peers from across Asia and beyond.
Merkos 302’s Chabad Young Professionals International is excited to announce a first-of-its-kind Shabbaton in Singapore, uniting young professional communities from across Asia and the entire world. With a unique blend of exotic sightseeing and spiritually charged experiences, the robust program looks to provide an unforgettable weekend of celebration, discovery, and personal growth.
"Today's young professionals seek relatable role models that stand for strong Jewish values,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, executive director of Merkos 302. “Singapore's Jewish community is an inspiring example they can live up to. Making it the perfect backdrop for an 'Encounter' weekend, where participants can learn how to be proud, uncompromising Jews in today’s world."
This weekend, part of the CYP International “Encounter” program, provides an opportunity for young professional communities in these otherwise isolated countries, relative to the central Jewish infrastructure in the West, to come together and draw strength from one another. In addition, Jewish professionals from around the world will have the chance to experience Shabbat in a unique setting and find insight from their contemporaries from across the globe.
One of the participating communities is in Taiwan: “Although antisemitism is relatively low in Taiwan, Judaism remains a minority faith, vulnerable to societal influences,” said Rabbi Levi Srugo, director of Chabad Young Professionals Taiwan, “Young Jewish professionals worldwide flock to Asia for its opportunities and they crave connection with fellow Jews and a supportive community that ignites their souls, empowering them to ensure the Jewish Nation's continuity, stronger and prouder than ever.”
Young Jewish professionals and their CYP Shluchim from Australia, Taiwan, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the United States are gearing up for the magical Shabbat filled with spirited services, delicious food, and meaningful connections. Group discussions, inspiring sessions, and social mixers will be interspersed throughout the weekend, including a day trip to the stunning Pulau Ubin island, and the chance to explore the vibrant city of Singapore.
“In today's climate young Jews are looking to come together more than ever,” said Rabbi Nissi Lepkivker, coordinator of CYP Encounters at Merkos 302, “This weekend really has the chance to empower the young professionals to walk away as prouder and more confident Jews, creating lasting relationships and memories that they will cherish for the rest of their lives.”
Generously Hosted by the Jewish Welfare Board.
CYP Encounter Asia will take place from January 30, 2025 to February 2, 2025.
